Chosen Children Ministries, Nicaragua

Chosen Children Ministries exists to share God’s love and the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the people of Nicaragua, serving their spiritual and physical needs in ways that bring God glory, by planting churches, equipping leaders, strengthening families and individuals, evangelizing and discipling children and adults, giving humanitarian aid, and providing the operating needs for The Refuge, our facility in Juigalpa for long-term and at-risk children. Chosen Children Ministries is God working through His people to reflect His love, teach His Word, and share His Son with the people of Nicaragua. From training Nicaraguan pastors in God’s Word, to building homes, providing food, and drilling wells to bring safe drinking water to poverty stricken families, to caring for children in our own orphanage, to discipling men, women, and children in God’s Word, to planting churches, to providing opportunities for US churches and Christian university groups to serve the Lord through short-term mission teams, God is continually amazing us as He uses and reveals His plan for this ministry. www.chosenchildrenministries.org

SBCV English as a Second Language (ESL)

ESL Ministry at The Heights English as a Second Language Ministry is another way for our church to reach out to our community with the love of Christ. There are people in our community that need to learn English or strengthen their English skills. In Lev 19:33-34 it says: 33 “‘When an alien lives with you in your land, do not mistreat him. 34 The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.” NIV In Chesterfield County we have approximately 8% of our population that is foreign born. We as followers of Christ need to be loving to aliens or foreigners in our land. We are not to mistreat them. Quite the contrary; we are to treat them as equals and love them. So how can we show this population God’s love? We can try to meet their needs. One need is the need to be able to communicate. How can we share about the Lord if we don’t know their language and they don’t know ours. Knowing the language spoken in that city, state, or country, helps that person navigate their everyday environment. English is what is spoken here in America. A way for us to show Christ’s love is to teach people who don’t know our language; English. Another avenue to use English lessons as a ministry involves short and long term mission trips. Being an English teacher can open doors in countries that are closed to traditional missionaries. EFL (English as a Foreign Language) can also open doors to poorer countries who want to educate their students so they can compete on a global scale. The training our teachers receive shows them how to merge their faith and teaching skills together. You might be asking; how do you teach a class without knowing the students first language? We are trained in a way that we don’t need to know any other language other than English and not only that we can have native speakers from several languages in class together. ESL teachers come away from the training workshops not only feeling confident about teaching English, but can see how to weave their faith in Christ into the lessons. How can I help? Pray!! Go to an ESL training workshop. E-mail us. Miriam & Jeff Fuller ajmwfuller@gmail.com 804-768-9514

Beacon Hill Church

Beacon Hill Church was started in late 2016 to be a Beacon of Light in urban areas. Our church was founded on the principles of Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. NO one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”

We focus our ministry on those that have largely been neglected. This includes the unsheltered community, the addicted, food-poor. We currently serve approximately 300-400 people a week with their food insecurities. In addition, we provide food for children who don’t have food to eat on the weekends. We also have celebrate recovery and have been successful in helping over 40 unsheltered get on their feet.
While this ministry was founded in Hopewell, we provide resources and training from Pennsylvania down into Miami and into Haiti and Jamaica.

Impact Sports International Prison Softball

Each spring and fall we schedule trips to regional and federal prisons, in both minimum and maximum units, where we play softball against the inmates and share the message of truth during or after play. These trips are different from our other trips as they can be canceled on a moment’s notice due to the volatile environment. However, when we are able to visit, our guys have the chance to share their stories of what God has done in their lives. God has done some amazing things through these trips.

It is incredible to see inmates surrender in a place where toughness is at a premium. It is encouraging to reunite with guys who have made decisions in the past and see them growing in their faith. We are also amazed to see what God does in the live of those who go with us.

We are always looking for experienced ballplayers to go to the prisons, as well as people who want the opportunity to share with the inmates. We have seen many men accept Christ through the testimonies of players and others each time that
we go.

LOVE804 Builders

LOVE804 Builders is designed to draw upon the talents of volunteers who enjoy doing home projects for people in need. Our list of abilities includes building wheel chair ramps, roofing, plumbing, electrical work, sheet rock, painting, yard work, cleaning and sprucing up. If it can be done to a home, we need volunteers to do it. Even if you do not have any particular talents but enjoy helping others, we can find place for you.

Some people need work performed on their homes who cannot afford to pay a professional and with volunteers working with other agencies who donate the materials, we can often get homes repaired for free or at a minimal charge while sharing the Gospel and showing the love of Jesus.

Prison Fellowship

Prison Fellowship, started by Chuck Colson in 1976, believes that a restorative approach to prisoners, former prisoners, and all those affected by crime and incarceration can make communities safer and healthier. Our ministry is founded on the conviction that all people are created in God’s image and that no life is beyond God’s reach. As Christians, we believe that Jesus — Himself brought to trial, executed, buried, and brought to life again — offers hope, healing, and a new purpose for each life. He can make even the most broken people and situations whole again. Through an amazing awakening to new hope and life purpose, those who once broke the law are transformed and mobilized to serve their neighbors, replacing the cycle of crime with a cycle of renewal.

Prison Fellowship is the leading faith-based voice shaping the public debate on justice reform. We mobilize Christians to advocate for a restorative approach to justice that advances proportional punishment, constructive prison culture, and second chances. We encourage the Church to, support families of incarcerated men and women through Angel Tree, and engage in Second Chance month. We encourage men and women to volunteer with Prison Fellowship Academy, a flagship program inside correctional centers, particularly at Sussex I and Sussex II Correctional Center in Waverly, VA. The Prison Fellowship Academy is an intensive, biblically based program that takes incarcerated men and women through a holistic 12- month transformation process. Participants are guided by Prison Fellowship staff and volunteers to lead lives of purpose and productivity inside and outside of prison. More information, including the application to become a volunteer can be found at https://www.prisonfellowship.org
